Egnatia Odos (EO SA) carries out interventions to improve the use of crossing structures

The interventions carried out by the Greek Partner Egnatia Odos (EO SA) to improve the use of crossing structures by wildlife along the highway A29 in Greece are going on.

The main interventions already made are: fence improvements (on 11 structures), construction of escape ramps (on 8 structures), vegetation management (in 4 structures), planting (total number of plants ordered and construction of irrigation system completed in 9 structures), removal of debris (on 13 structures) and construction of dry ledges (1 structure).

The photos illustrate examples of the developed activities.

Once all the foreseen works will be concluded their effectiveness will be monitored through the installation of the prototype by the Greek partner COSMOTE, in order to compare the numbers of animal passages before and after the interventions.

This action is fundamental to improve the ecological connectivity and to reduce the risk of Animal-Vehicle Collisions.

This project is funded with the contribution of the LIFE programme of the European Union
